Mental Health Awareness Week May 2023

It seems apt that one of our team is currently delivering WRAW to a group of employees at SUEZ ahead of Mental Health Awareness week. WRAW stands for Workplace Resilience and Wellbeing. It is a psychometric tool that has been developed to provide individual insights to help individuals and teams develop their self- awareness.

According to latest statistics more than 15 million people – 30% of the UK population – live with one or more long-term conditions, and more than 4 million of these people will also have mental health problems. Mixed anxiety and depression are Britain’s most common mental disorders, with 7.8% of people meeting the criteria for diagnosis. (Mental Health Foundation)

This year Mental Health Awareness week is concentrating on anxiety. There can be lots of things that can lead to feelings of anxiety; relationships, starting a new job (or losing one) or other big life events. We may also get anxious when it comes to things to do with money and not being able to meet our basic needs, like heating our home or buying food which is very pertinent at the moment.

Even though we have seen great leaps forward in the national discourse around mental health it is still regarded as challenging to establish a culture of openness in the workplace. Using these national dates can be a great opportunity to start to have those conversations and break the ice, specifically around stress and workplace anxiety.

Workplace anxiety can be triggered by many things and it is natural that some situations will create some anxiety but it is how we control, manage and overcome those situations that is key to ensuring that short term anxiety does not become a long-term condition.

The positive news is that anxiety can be conquered and controlled and an individual can also improve their resilience and ability to cope with challenges. Several years ago we chose to get onboard with WRAW in order to help our clients and their employees.

WRAW is the world’s first psychometric tool and survey to measure resilience and its impact on wellbeing in the workplace. It is based on the 5 Pillars of Resilience, which provides a holistic view of an individual, covering thinking style and the emotional and physical elements that impact wellbeing.

WRAW measures current behaviours and thoughts that enable individuals to cope well with the challenges and pressures they are facing. It is a multi-dimensional measure of resilience, designed to support individual, leader, team and organisational development.

This short clip captures the tool really well, have a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=802jPFimNVo
